Turtle Lake Casino Closes
Posted on: November 19, 2020
The St. Croix Chippewa announced on November 9th that the Turtle Lake Casino will close for 30 days to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. A statement on the casino’s website said, “The St. Croix Chippewa of Wisconsin have decided that this temporary closure is necessary for the safety and well-being of our guests, team members and our communities to stop the spread of the… virus.”
With health officials alarmed as Wisconsin breaks records for new cases, hospitalizations and deaths, some Tribes have chosen to close casinos temporarily or keep them closed. Still others continue running with enhanced safety precautions for employees and guests.
Casinos run by the St. Croix Chippewa in Danbury and Hertel remain open as of now. For more information on how other Tribal communities are managing their casino operations during the pandemic, view the story from Wisconsin Public Radio.
