New Tribal Council

The newly elected Tribal Council was inaugurated Monday morning. The Tribal Council Members were sworn in by Jeanine L. Hill, Chief Judge of the Sokaogon Chippewa Tribal Court.

Following the swearing in, Chairman Robert VanZile, Jr., spoke to the audience and those watching live on Facebook, saying, “We are here to speak for our community, and their interests come first.”

The Chairman also thanked the previous Tribal Council members, the SCC ICS COVID-19 Pandemic Team, and the SCC Health Clinic staff for their dedication to their job and the community.

Chairman VanZile also spoke of some of the goals of the Tribal Council, which included building the community’s future, having our people managing our businesses, and increasing the number of people receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I want to see all of our employees get vaccinated. Believe in the science. I and fellow Council Members got the shot. If we want our Casino and C-Store to open, we need our employees vaccinated,” he said.

Each Council Member spoke to the audience, thanked the community, and spoke of their goals for the future. Audience members asked questions, including asking about the opportunity to attend future Council meetings. Chairman VanZile shared that the Council is looking into options for upcoming meetings.
