Time: 5:30 to 6:30 pm (approximately)
When: Beginning Thursday, September 20th
Place: SCC Cultural Building
Dear Ladies of the Mole Lake Community – and to those of you who may not live there but do “LOVE” there!
The Sokaogon Chippewa Community Women’s Group will have it’s first meeting on Thursday, September 20th at the Cultural Building on the Sokaogon Chippewa Community Reservation.
The group will meet 2-3 times a month and I need to let everyone participating know that this project is for my graduate school thesis and I am doing research that will end near November 23, 2018. My goal is only to facilitate this group and keep everyone on course. I may offer a few ice breakers and small talks. However, this is your group Ladies and shall be directed by you.
In order for this to be a successful group everyone needs to ensure that all conversations are kept private and confidential out of respect for one another. We are here to support and empower one another. Additionally, my goal is to develop a proposal for the Tribal Council to potentially implement this project and offer possible finding sources.
WHY A WOMEN”S GROUP?
There are numerous families and individuals struggling with varying issues from grief, to alcohol and other drugs, low self-esteem, the list goes on. I think what we need is turn those into positive actions for women and offer empowering thoughts and encouragement to those women rather than putting them down as some feel they are though not intentionally. After discussing these things with some, I think that by sharing our problems and our successes we can build larger connections to reinforce past friendships and build new ones. We can also acknowledge unique foundations that provide a safe place for women of the community to be themselves! So let’s WOMAN UP!
A reminder that everyone is held accountable and certain topics will be OFF LIMITS such as U.S. and Tribal Politics, and religion. Since I chose to have this during dinner time, if any of you would like to bring a dish to pass please do so it would be so appreciated! I will provide soda, coffee and tea.
Miigwech. I can’t wait to see you there.
