Elders Needed for GLITC Programs

The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. (GLITC) has two programs that are in need of Elder participation.

The Foster Grandparent Program’s mission is to connect Tribal Elders with youth who can benefit from the assistance, mentoring, tutoring and friendship of an older adult. Volunteers are matched with children in schools, Head Start programs, after school programs and Tribal youth centers to provide one-on-one and group interaction.

The Senior Companion Program’s mission is to connect Elders with other Elders needing help in the same Tribal communities. Senior Companions are volunteers 55 and over, and provide assistance and friendship to seniors who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. The program aims to keep seniors independent longer and provide respite to family caregivers.
