Earth Day

By Tina Van Zile, Environmental Director

Planning is underway for my annual Earth Day Event. I always get excited when Earth Day is getting near because I love seeing our employees and community members come out to give our Mother Earth some love by cleaning up all the litter along the roadsides.

You’ll see friends in small groups on stretches of road laughing, making jokes, and enjoying the outdoors. Who knew you could have so much fun picking up trash! 😊

I’ve already had two Elder ladies contact me about attending this year’s event. I do my best to provide a wonderful lunch as everyone works so hard.

This year, I want to say Miigwech to Chris Quade, General Manager of the Mole Lake Casino, and Auggie Van Zile, Sokaogon Finance Inc., for donating funds for our Earth Day T-shirts and door prizes. It makes planning a lot easier when you have support from our other Tribal businesses and I am very appreciative of the help.

I expect the annual Earth Day event to be held on April 21st or 25th, depending on the weather. If we have an early spring, I encourage Tribal residents to enjoy some time outside and get a head start on their yards. Maybe make it a family day for yard clean up, make your family a good lunch or supper, and end with a movie night.

I look forward to seeing you all on Earth Day! Spring is just around the corner! 😊
