Posted on: August 22, 2019
Last week, Tribal Council Members and Family Services, Indian Child Welfare (ICW), Abinoojii Day Care and Higher Education staff met with Secretary-Designee Emilie Amundson and Tribal Liaison Stephanie Lozano of the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF).
“Governor Evers made a commitment to work with the Tribes, and Secretary-Designee Amundson wanted to meet with us to see what is working and what needs we have,” shared Vickie Ackley, Tribal Treasurer.
Governor Evers’ commitment to working with Wisconsin’s Tribes was reasserted with his signing Executive Order #18 affirming the intergovernmental relationships between the Tribal Nations and the state government.
“The meeting was very successful! We had eight staff meet with the Secretary-Designee and Tribal Liaison. We discussed several items including the recurring barriers that students face as they enter college, childcare funding and certification obstacles, the challenges ICW navigates for foster families, and family service plans. We were honored to meet, and appreciate that she took the time visit our community to see first-hand that we are striving to provide the best services and resources for our area.”
