COVID-19 Numbers Rising in Community
From the Sokaogon Chippewa Health Clinic’s Facebook Page:
We are currently experiencing the highest amount of daily new infections, as well as pediatric hospitalizations, on a national level since the start of the pandemic.
The current 7-day average is 491,000 new cases per day which eclipses the peak of both last year’s initial wave and the wave from the Delta variant this fall.
The Omicron variant is now the cause of over 95% of new infections in the U.S. (was only 8% on 12/11/2021).
While preliminary data suggests that symptoms associated with the Omicron variant have been less severe on average, the sheer numbers of daily new infections is still putting a massive strain on our national health care system.
Wisconsin hospitalizations are currently at their second highest point since the beginning of the pandemic and rising fast with only three ICU beds available in our 12 county region and 35 ICU beds available statewide.
Some of the best measures that you can take to protect yourself and those around you continue to include washing your hands regularly, wearing a face mask in public settings, and getting vaccinated if you are capable and haven’t already done so.
