Historical Marker Commemorates Mining Treaty

Mole Lake Tribal Members gathered on June 14th at the site of the new historical marker on Hwy 45 and Country Road Q, at the north end of Pelican Lake, recognizing the historic signing of the Treaty of August 5, 1826 with the Chippewa Indians.

The 1826 Treaty of Fond du Lac gave the United States government the right to search for and take subsurface minerals and later became known as the Mining Treaty.
