Earth Day Roadside Cleanup Scheduled for April 23rd

The Sokaogon Chippewa Environmental Department’s annual Earth Day roadside cleanup event is just a few weeks away. Tina Van Zile, Sokaogon Environmental Director, has organized this event for several years.
“I wanted to do something in recognition of Earth Day,” Tina said. “Earth Day originated in Wisconsin. It’s that time in the spring when most of the snow is melted. What better way to do it than to clean up our own community?”
Last year, approximately 198 bags of garbage were picked up on 9.7 miles of road right-of-ways.
The Sokaogon Chippewa Community Earth Day Roadside/Community Cleanup will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd. Community members should meet in Large Council Room at the Tribal Administration Building at 9:00 am sharp for road assignments. There will be a short training on how to safely handle dangerous items found on the roadside before the cleanup begins.
Community members who participate will receive a promotional gift of $15 in free play for the Mole Lake Casino. Lunch will be provided, and there will be drawings for door prizes after the cleanup.
“Please come out and enjoy the day with each other as a community to take care of Mother Earth and make our community look presentable,” Tina said.
