Community Co-Ed Softball Tournament a Huge Hit

The Sokaogon Chippewa Community hosted an impromptu co-ed softball tournament for residents and employees to enjoy on July 3rd. Everyone gathered around Noon on the hot, sunny day to have some fun on the field behind the fish hatchery.

The first game played was between between Attack of the Retired and the youth team Big Chicken, with Attack of the Retired walking away with a 12-6 win.

Home School Coordinator Rachel Vodar was the grill master, and cooked up brats and burgers for the guests. There was also an abundant supply of beverages for everyone to stay hydrated over the warm day.

“This was just a last minute event planned by Chairman McGeshick, Vice Chairman Arlyn Ackley, Jr., Tribal Treasurer Vickie Ackley, Leelyn VanZile and myself,” Rachel said. “We wanted the community and employees to have a little fun for the 4th of July holiday.”

Rachel hopes that this will become an annual event and said it was great to see everyone come together and just have fun before the annual fireworks show.

“I want to give a huge thanks to the youth workers who worked very hard to prepare the field and for donating the soda and water,” Rachel said.

Congratulations to the winners of the tournament:

  • First Place – Batitudes
  • Second Place – Attack of the Retired
  • Third Place – Mole Lake Minnows
  • Fourth Place – Casino

Congratulations to all the winners, and Chi Miigwech to everyone who helped make this event so fun and successful!
